Congrats to Genk, they were the best team throughout the season. They definitely got some exciting youngsters in De Bruyne and Courtois (who reminds me of a young Van Der Sar), it will be interesting to see where they go from here.

A fine read and a waste of a club, judging by the conveyor belt of managers they’ve had. I like the sound of the relegation play-offs actually. Like you say, it’s brought up some feisty encounters.

Bit harsh on Enoh, I won’t say he’s a brilliant player by the stretch of the imagination, but on song he can be effective in what he does – a sort of destroyer. His weakness is distributing the ball at a greater tempo, that’s the real problem with the midfield. I agree with the point on the inability to link with defence – which causes problems.

De Boer could easily play Lindgren, but my guess if that he doesn’t fully trust him as De Zeeuw – both he and Enoh are effectively covering midfielders – it’s the best Ajax have at the moment.

I hope to see more of Vertonghenbauer and less of Vertonprunier – this depends if the midfield is on song

It will be an interesting match and I am looking forward to it. Both teams have a lot in common.

As for Ajax, I would say that the weakness is their midfield and not the defense. The defense is suffering because of the bad midfield. The midfield isn’t playing with the fluidity required and is unable to link play between defense and attack.

Enoh is brilliant at winning the ball, but once he has the ball his distribution skills will let the team down. More often than not he will give the ball away. And when that happens, chaos ensues in the defense. This is also why Vertonghen can’t move up a line as often as he likes as he knows that Enoh might screw up anytime. On top of that, De Zeeuw hasn’t been in form since end of last season.

See, I knew that then changed my mind. You are indeed correct, wrote this at about midnight and that paragraph in particular had many mistakes. But thanks for liking it, despite my inability to recognise the change in formation.

Great article, as a Genk fan, I thought it was very interesting. One mistake though, Genk currently play in a 4-4-2 formation. They played 3-4-3 under Hein Vanhaezebrouck, but not under Frank Vercauteren.

Nice article Chris. I thought he looked a great prospect when he was younger, and when he secured the move to Fiorentina it looked like the beginning of a really high-profile career. Unfortunately it hasn’t quite happened for him, and personal tragedies may have contributed to that which is a shame.

One thing’s for sure, you can’t trust Football Manager then. Good write-up!
